The German men are performing well at the ITTF Pro Tour Danish Open
in Frederikshavn. All Olympic Team silver medallists reached the
quarter-finals in the Men’s Singles event.
After Ovtcharov and
Boll, Christian Süss caused the biggest surprise of the tournament so
far. The 23 year old German eliminated China’s world no. 9 Hao Shuai,
winner of the Slovenian Open a week ago.

TMS and Tamasu (Butterfly) has agreed on terms that will bring
Butterfly as a sponsor for the 2010 World Table Tennis Championships in
Moscow.
TMS, the marketing company working for the ITTF,
announced that Butterfly will be the "Official Ball Sponsor and
Supplier" for the event in the Russian capital.

Andy Pereira against Belgium’s Benjamin Rogiers was the duel of the
last chance at the Danish Open in Frederikshavn. Both 19 years old,
they lost their matches the day before and they knew that only the
winner would prevail in the group.

Beside Frenchman Salifou, another young player was in a positive
mood today. England’s runner up at the World Junior Championships Paul
Drinkhall, however, had the worst possible start against Frenchman Loic
Bobillier.
Drinkhall then showed an impressive comeback
winning the following four games relatively easy. Bobillier finally
destroyed his racket and the match point was not even played anymore.

Korea’s Ryu Seung Min belongs to the very best players at the
present time and he is definitely one of the most feared opponents for
the Chinese stars. Like at the Pro Tour event in Slovenia, Ryu’s hopes
for more finished in the second round against a player from China.

The German Table Tennis Association has allocated the 2010 Men’s
World Cup to Magdeburg, a city that has experience of staging major
events. The capital city of Saxony-Anhalt, it was the home for the 2007
World Team Cup.

Li Jiao of the Netherlands is the defending champion in the Women’s Singles event at the Slovenian Open in Velenje and of course the ITTF Pro Tour is high on her 2009 calendar.

The inaugural Youth Olympic Games will be staged in Singapore from 14th to 26th August 2010.
The qualification system for this new international multi-sport event was approved by the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee and the Olympic Commission of the ITTF at its meeting held in December 2008 in Madrid.
Mixed Team Competition - A Mixed Gender Event
Only players born in 1994 and 1995 will be eligible to participate in the south east Asian city state.

In the fifth round of the Men’s Singles event at the Japanese National Championships on Thursday 16th January 2009, Jin Ueda, who has enjoyed success on the ITTF Junior Circuit, duly progressed to the next round.
The statistics read that he posted a seven games victory, winning 11-5, 8-11, 11-8, 12-14, 9-11, 11-2, 11-8.

Cao Zhen emerged successful in an all Chinese final in the Women’s
Singles event at the Slovenian Open in Velenje on Saturday 17th January
2009 beating Fan Ying in the final.
Seeded no.5, Cao Zhen won 8-11, 11-7, 11-6, 3-11, 11-13, 13-11, 11-6 and thus maintained a tradition.
