Andy Pereira against Belgium’s Benjamin Rogiers was the duel of the
last chance at the Danish Open in Frederikshavn. Both 19 years old,
they lost their matches the day before and they knew that only the
winner would prevail in the group.
Pereira was 1-3 down in
games, then 10-6 ahead in the seventh game where he eventually
prevailed 16-14. The last points were an up and down like the whole
match.
Impatience
"I was
fighting, fighting, fighting", the Cuban said exhausted after the
match. It was the right way to come back but then Pereira was too
impatient when he missed several match points. "I tried to win with the
first attack", he confessed, "and was to hard when he brought the balls
back."
Scholarship in Sweden
The
reason why the Cuban plays the Pro Tour event in Denmark is simple. "I
live in Sweden. I’ve been practicing there thanks to an ITTF
scholarship for six months." Until March Pereira will stay in
Scandinavia, and then he wants to attack at the events in Latin America.
