Beside Frenchman Salifou, another young player was in a positive
mood today. England’s runner up at the World Junior Championships Paul
Drinkhall, however, had the worst possible start against Frenchman Loic
Bobillier.
Drinkhall then showed an impressive comeback
winning the following four games relatively easy. Bobillier finally
destroyed his racket and the match point was not even played anymore.
Small Changes, big Effect
Drinkhall’s
coach Alan Cooke tried to analyse after the match. "Sometimes there are
only small changes to do", he said without blaming his protégé.
"Paul
had a bad start, was always behind at the start of the first three
games. When he started a bit better, the pressure was on his opponent."
In
the second round Drinkhall will face China’s world number 9 Hao Shuai,
who made short shrift of Austria’s Bernhard Presslmayer.
