Ruwen Filus delighted the home fans at the German Open in Bremen on
Saturday 21st March 2009 by winning the Under 21 Men’s Singles event
overcoming the Czech Republic’s Tomas Tregler at the final hurdle.
Combining
solid defence with the occasional attack, Filus overcame Tregler in
four straight games to clinch gold. He won 11-6, 11-6, 11-9, 11-9.

Table tennis was very much to the fore on Saturday 7th March 2009 at the second session of the 11th National People’s Congress in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
Chinese Foreign Minister, Yang Jiechi, highlighted table tennis as one of his hobbies at the press conference held prior to the opening.

Certainly
that was the situation in the Men’s Singles event at the Indian Open in
Indore on Sunday 15th March 2009 where all four semi-finalists were
from Singapore.
Both penultimate stage matches witnessed victory for the lower seeded player.

Top seeds Singapore’s Gao Ning and Yang Zi justified their exalted
position in the draw by securing gold in style in the Men’s Doubles
event at the Indian Open in Indore on Sunday 15th March 2009.
At
the final hurdle they doused host nation aspirations by overcoming
Sharath Kamal Achanta and Subhajit Saha in a contest where gradually
they asserted themselves on proceedings.
