title at the Kuwait Open in February, is the player to make the most
progress in the higher reaches of the Women’s World Ranking issued by
the International Table Tennis Federation on Wednesday 4th March 2009. -

Few changes in the top 50 of the Men’s World Ranking list issued by
the International Table Tennis Federation on Wednesday 4th March 2009
but, several places lower down the order, those who performed
creditably on the ITTF Pro Tour in Kuwait and Qatar are rewarded. -

Wei Zhuzhu won the Men’s Singles title and Bai Shuang captured the counterpart Women’s Singles crown.
The
names are of course Chinese and players from that country winning
titles is nothing new; the difference is that they were not playing on
home soil, nor were they playing in one of the hotbeds of Asian or
European table tennis. -

The H.I.S. 2009 World Table Tennis Championships in Yokohama will be held without the Austrian Werner Schlager.
The 36 year old former World champion cancelled owing to family reasons.
On
3rd February, Werner Schlager’s life partner Bettina Müller gave birth
to a boy named Nick. Schlager already cancelled his participation for
the LIEBHERR Europe Top 12.
