champions at the Latin American Championships in San Salvador on Monday
23rd March 2009; at the final hurdle, Brazil overcame arch rivals
Argentina, whilst Chile defeated Colombia. -

Latin American Championships in San Salvador on Monday 23rd March 2009
with experience a key factor in the successes.Certainly that
was the situation in the Men’s Doubles final, where Hugo Hoyama and
Cazuo Matsumoto defeated surprise finalists, Ecuador’s Alberto Miño and
Dino Suarez. -

The host nation’s Timo Boll, the no.1 seed, captured the Men’s
Singles crown at the German Open in Bremen on Sunday 22nd March 2009
beating Vladimir Samsonov of Belarus, seeded no.2, in four straight
games at the final hurdle.Boll won 11-8, 12-10, 11-6, 11-9.

The reigning national champion, Japan’s Sayaka Hirano, won the
Women’s Singles title at the German Open in Bremen on Sunday 22nd March
2009 beating Viktoria Pavlovich of Belarus in five games at the final
hurdle.Hirano, seeded no.9, overcame the no.11 seed by the margin of 11-5, 11-9, 8-11, 11-9, 11-6.

Winner of the Men’s Singles title earlier in the afternoon of Sunday
22nd March 2009, Timo Boll concluded a most successful day in Bremen’s
AWD Dome by partnering national team colleague Christian Süss to
victory in the Men’s Doubles competition.Thus the pair brought the host country’s gold medal hall at the German Open to three in total.

Ruwen Filus delighted the home fans at the German Open in Bremen on
Saturday 21st March 2009 by winning the Under 21 Men’s Singles event
overcoming the Czech Republic’s Tomas Tregler at the final hurdle.Combining
solid defence with the occasional attack, Filus overcame Tregler in
four straight games to clinch gold. He won 11-6, 11-6, 11-9, 11-9. -
