Chinese table tennis queen, the owner of 24 world titles, Wang Nan opened a new chapter of her career in late March. After the glorious retirement after the Beijing Olympic Games and a grand wedding, Wang Nan moved on to a brand new area – now she is a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Young League.

The great sportswoman made her first step into politics.

A Greenhorn that Wants to Learn
“Working with the Communist Young League is a start from scratch to me, and I will keep my athletic spirit in this whole new field, because I’m totally a greenhorn here, and have a lot to learn”, Wang Nan was quoted by some sports media several days after her registration to the office of Central Committee of the Communist Young League, which locates at the East Qianmen Street in Beijing.

“I’d like to thank my senior leaders for their trust, my new colleagues for their generous care, and my fans and friends for their long-term concern and support. It’s a big honour for me to get my new job here, so there is no reason not to double my effort!” Wang Nan added with a determined tone.

    Keep the Flag Flying
It seemed that pressure from the new challenge offset the excitement of a new job. Wang Nan took her post in quite a low key, as she told the press:” I hope my fans and people caring about me could divert their focus to the cause of our Communist Young League, and this would be the best boost for me. After all, this job is another way of ‘keep the flag flying’!”

The Communist Young League is an important political organisation. The youth movement is run by the Communist Party of China and the Central Committee is its core composition.
