The announcement by UK Sport that the appeal by the British Table Tennis Federation for funding over the next Olympic Cycle was turned down is very disappointing.
To be frank, not unexpected bearing in mind our history regarding funding negotiations with UK Sport. During the London cycle we were the only sport not to benefit from additional funding generated via a British Olympic Association initiative, ‘Team 2012’ geared primarily to support under funded sports.
The BTTF Board will be considering various options on how to progress this matter as we feel an independent view on our application is needed.
We are really surprised that table tennis, a sport with significant participation in Great Britain and one of the largest sports worldwide was not given the very small investment requested of £369K to cover two talented athletes out of the total UK Sport investment of £276M for Olympic Sports.
