The Liebherr European Championships in the Russian city of St.
Petersburg is most likely Trinko Keen’s last international tournament.
The 37 year old Dutch star will retire and focus on other things.
Keen
has formed a successful doubles partnership with Austria’s Werner
Schlager; after beating the Serbs Karakasevic/Grujic in the quarters;
Keen/Schlager will win at least a bronze medal.
Boll/Süss Save Four Match Points
The
doubles quarter-finals saw three clear and one close result. The
defending European Doubles champions, Timo Boll and Christian Süss from
Germany, had to save no less than four match points against Sweden’s
pairing of Jens Lundqvist and Pär Gerell. "They both started like the
fire brigade", said Timo Boll about his Swedish opponents. "We rather
had a cold start. Once ahead they played very well."
In spite of
a 10-7 lead in the decisive seventh game, the Swedes departedt the draw
one round before the bronze medal. Boll/Süss will now face the
Portuguese Marcos Freitas/Tiago Apolonia, who overcame Chen/Gardos from
Austria.
