China dominated matters at the quarter-final stage of both the Men’s
and Women’s Singles events at the Cheng Shin Tire 22nd Asian Cup in the
Chinese city of Hangzhou on Tuesday 19th May 2009;
Three players in each event, three winners in each event.
In the male competition it was success for Wang Hao, Ma Long and Zhang Jike.
Meanwhile, in the female competition Guo Yue, Ding Ning and Liu Shiwen held sway.
Not Comfortable
However, it was not in all cases a comfortable passage with only Ding Ning securing a four straight games victory.

Yue was extended the full seven games distance by Singapore’s Feng
Tianwei whilst Liu Shiwen needed six games to beat Japan’s Ai Fukuhara.

Wang Hao was tested by Hong Kong’s Jiang Tianyi, a six games verdict
being the end result whilst for Zhang Jike, he beat Japan’s Jenji
Matsudaira in five games and in one game more, Ma Long ended the hopes
of Jiang Tianyi’s colleague, Tang Peng.
In the two remaining
matches, Hong Kong’s Tie Yana overcame compatriot Jiang Huajun in the
women’s event whilst in the male competition Seiya Kishikawa won an all
Japanese duel.
He overcame the prodigious talents of Koki Niwa.
