The H.I.S, World Championships are over, the table tennis family
gathered, the table tennis family has now departed, returning home to
the four corners of the world to retell memories of eight days in Japan.
Even
though the physical gathering of the global family may only take place
annually; that family remains strong wherever the members reside.
It is a fact is endorsed by the response to the Sandra Paovic Fund and the efforts of the European Table Tennis Union.
A total of 81,400 Euros has been raised.
The European Table
Tennis Union has received superb support from their friends throughout
the world in their efforts to raise funds for Sandra Paovic; the
Croatian star who suffered terrible spinal injuries following a car
accident in Paris in late January 2009.
Appeal
It
was in early February, that the appeal was launched with the response
from those playing on the ITTF Pro Tour in Kuwait and Qatar being
immediate.
Additionally, financial help has been received from
within Croatia thanks the efforts of the National Government, the
National Olympic Committee and National Television.
Progress
Furthermore,
Sandra is making progress and to some extent defying the prognosis
immediately following her accident in late January.
"She is
able to move her legs and one arm", explained Ivo-Goran Munivrana, ETTU
Vice President and President of the Croatian Table Tennis Association,
in Yokohama.
Medical Treatment Continues
It
is welcome progress but of course the medical treatment in the Swiss
clinic in Nottwil, a clinic which specialises in spinal injuries, must
continue.
The first instalment has been deposited.
However, the work goes on; donations are most welcome.
