Singapore’s Feng Tianwei won her first career ITTF Pro Tour Women’s Singles title, when she succeeded at the Polish Open in Warsaw on Sunday 30th November 2008.
She beat no.2 seed and compatriot, Wang Yue Gu to clinch gold.
Seeded no. 1 she was outstanding and dominated matters from start to finish against a player, with whose style she was well acquainted and won in what at first sight may seem surprisingly comfortable fashion.
Feng Tianwei won 11-9, 11-1, 11-1, 11-9.
History
It was a convincing victory but it was one that history predicted.
The pair had met on three previous occasions in world ranking events and on each occasion Feng Tianwei had won.
Meetings
In August 2008, they confronted each other in the quarter-finals of the Women’s Singles event at the Chinese Taipei Open whilst in 2008 they had met on two previous occasions.
At the Volkswagen Open China, they met in round two whilst at the Volkswagen Women’s World Cup they were at opposite ends of the table in September.
Straight Games
On all three occasions, Feng Tianwei won in four straight games; in Warsaw she did it again, the score now reads in terms of games 16-0 in favour.
So the final in Warsaw; was it surprisingly easy? Perhaps not?
Best Ever
It was for Feng Tianwei her best ever result on the ITTF Pro Tour; the previous best being in 2007 when she reached the Women’s Singles final at the Chinese Taipei Open.
Sixth Appearance
Meanwhile, for Wang Yue Gu it was her sixth appearance in a Women’s Singles final on the ITTF Pro Tour and the third time she has ended the day with the silver medal.
In 2006 she won in Japan and Germany whilst earlier this year she was crowned the champion in Brazil; meanwhile, in 2006 she was the runner up in Korea and Russia. In Poland in 2008 she was the runner up again.
