The final of the Women’s Singles event at the Olympic Games in
Beijing was a Chinese affair. The 26 year old world number one overcame
in five games compatriot Wang Nan.

The 29 year old world number
five started better and was dominating most of the rallies. Zhang,
however, found a way out and dominated increasingly. The last game was
    11-3 for Zhang.
In spite of the great victory, Zhang is not the most successful
Olympic table tennis player. Although she equalised Deng Yaping with
four gold medals, the new best Wang Nan; Wang has four gold medals and
    one silver medal.

    China Picks All Medals
    The
Chinese hospitality in the Peking University stops on the field of
play. Before Zhang Yining and Wang Nan would contest in the final, the
third Chinese Guo Yue played against Singapore’s Li Jia Wei.

    Again
the player from Singapore proved that there is no big difference
between them and China. During four games the match was completely open
before Guo Yue took the lead and eventually won 11-6, 14-12, 9-11,
7-11, 11-3, 11-4. Gold, silver as well as bronze will therefore go to
    Chinese players
