China’s Wang Liqin won the bronze medal match against Sweden’s
Jörgen Persson with four games to nil. The 30 year old Chinese put his
12 years older opponent constantly under pressure and completed the
    Chinese dominance.

The hosts won all medals in the Women’s as
well as in the Men’s Singles event. Persson suffered the same fate like
his compatriot Jan-Ove Waldner four years ago. Persson’s friend was
also in the penultimate round but failed to win a medal for Sweden.

The Royal Family in the Peking University
    Before
the Olympic Games, nobody was able to predict such a performance of the
Swede. Persson was supported by Sweden’s King Carl Gustaf, his wife
Queen Silvia and son Prince Carl Philip as well as Swedish IOC
    Vice-President Gunilla Lindberg.
