    France, represented by Emmanuel Lebesson and Adrien Mattenet, won
    the Men�s Team title in the table tennis competition at the
    Mediterranean Games in the Italian town of Pesara on Tuesday 30th June
    2009; whilst for the women, it was success for Italy.

    Nikoleta Stefanova and Wenling Tan Monfardini guided the host nation to success.

    The
    XVI Mediterranean Games is held every four years and in 2009 has
    attracted has attracted 23 countries, competing in 28 sports; the whole
    programme commenced on Thursday 25th June and will conclude on Sunday
    5th July 2009.

    Outstanding Form
    Emmanuel
    Lebesson and Adrien Mattenet were in outstanding form, overcoming the
    Italian duo of Mihai Bobocica and Yang Min in the semi-finals by three
    matches to nil before handing out the same punishment to the Serbian
    combination of Aleksandr Karakasevic and Slobodan Grujic in the final.

    The Serbians clinched the bronze medal beating Italy three-nil in the Play-Off match.

    Women’s Team Event
    Meanwhile,
    in the Women’s Team event, Nikoleta Stefanova and Wenling Tan
    Monfradini recorded a three-one win over Turkey’s Hu Melek and He Sirin
    in the semi-finals before securing gold by the same margin in the final
    where they defeated the French outfit of Li Xue and Carole Grundisch.

    Spain
    represented by Zhu Fang and Sara Ramirez, having lost to France in the
    semi-finals clinched the bronze medal; in the Play Off match they
    recorded a three-two victory over Turkey.
