Austria’s Robert Gardos has undoubtedly been one of the in form players in recent months; he has excelled in both domestic and international competitions.
In September 2008 he gained his highest ever world ranking when he appeared at no. 38 on the men’s list; in October he repeated the feat and was listed at no.37.
Now, on the Men’s World Rankings issued by the International Table Tennis Federation on Wednesday 5th November 2008; he moves into completely new territory.
He appears at no.28.
It is just reward for the hours of training and the splendid results achieved.
More Good News for Austria
Good news for Austria and there is more good news for Austria.
Werner Schlager, the country’s leading player for over a decade, moves from no.17 to no.13.
Erke Austrian Open
Progress follows the performances achieved at the recent Erke Austrian Open where Germany’s Timo Boll overcame Chinese Taipei’s Chuan Chih-Yuan to clinch the Men’s Singles title. The result is that Timo Boll moves from no.6 to no.5 whilst Chuan Chih-Yuan advances three places from no.15 to no.12.
However, if there is one player to benefit from the efforts made in Salzburg then it is the man Timo Boll beat in the Men’s Singles semi-finals; his colleague Patrick Baum.
The young German moves from no.126 to no.82.
Europeans Progress
Good news for Germany, Austria and Chinese Taipei and also there is good news for Slovenia, Portugal and Sweden with representatives from their countries making notable progress.
Slovenia’s Bojan Tokic moves from no.43 to no.38, Portugal’s João Monteiro from no.59 to no.47 and Sweden’s Jens Lundqvist from no.60 to no.48.
Chinese Stars Lead
The top four players on the Men’s Rankings all remain the same, the Chinese quartet of Wang Hao, Ma Lin, Ma Long and Wang Liqin occupy the respective leading places, whilst as result of Timo Boll’s elevation, Vladimir Samsonov of Belarus drops one place to no.6.
China’s Chen Qi is at no.7 followed by the Korean’s Joo Se Hyuk and Ryu Seung Min with Hao Shuai, also of China, at no.10.
Under 21 Men’s Ranking
Meanwhile, in the Under 21 Men’s Rankings the places remain the same with Ma Long in top spot followed by Germany’s Dimitrij Ovtcharov and Japan’s Jun Mizutani.
Changes
However, in both the Under 18 and Under 15 Boys’ Rankings, there are changes.
In the Under 18 list, Kenta Matsudaira moves from no.2 to no.1 changing places with China’s Xu Xin whilst England’s Paul Drinkhall and Singapore’s Ma Liang also change places.
Paul Drinkhall is now at no.3 with Ma Liang at no.4
Under 15 Boys’ Ranking
Changes at the very top of the Under 18 Boys’ Ranking whilst in the Under 15 Boys’ Ranking the changes are just below the top three places; the Chinese trio of Yan An, Song Hongyuan and Zhang Shenwunan occupy the first three positions but immediately below, as a result of the ITTF Cadet Challenge and ITTF Junior Circuit Finals, there are changes.
Japan’s Koki Niwa, the winner of the Junior Boys’ Singles crown in Helsingborg moves from no.9 to no.5 whilst Paraguay’s Marcelo Aguirre who impressed in the Cadet Boys’ Singles event is now at no.5.
