    Top seeds in the Men’s Team event at the Erke German Open in Berlin, Chinese Taipei, duly booked their place in the quarter-final stage of proceedings following a first round victory against Croatia on the evening of Wednesday 19th November 2008.

    They recorded a three matches to one victory against Croatia with Chuan Chih-Yuan and Wu Chih-Chi both remaining unbeaten. Chuan Chih-Yuan defeated Roko Tosic, Wu Chih-Chi overcame Andrej Gacina with the two combining to win the doubles contest against Roko Tosic and Tomislav Zubcic.

    The one win for Croatia came from Andrej Gacina in the opening match of the proceedings. He defeated Chiang Hung-Chieh in three straight games.

    Victories
    Success in the top half of the draw for Chinese Taipei and there were also victories for Poland, Japan and Hong Kong.

    Poland defeated Russia by three matches to nil with each contest being resolved in four games.

    Wang Zeng Yi overcame Fedorv Kuzmin, Jakub Kosowski defeated Kirill Skachkov with the doubles win of Lucjan Blaszczyk and Wang Zeng Yi over Mikhail Paykov and Fedor Kuzmin bring matters to a close.

    The victory recorded by the Poles was the most convincing of the round with both Japan and Hong Kong having hurdles to negotiate.

    Mainstays of Success
    Seiya Kishikawa and Jun Mizutani proved to be the mainstays of Japanese success.

    Mizutani accounted for Adrien Mattenet whilst Seiya Kishikawa brought matters to a conclusion with victory against Emmanuel Lebesson, the pair having combined one match earlier to win the doubles against Adrien Mattenet and Abdel-Kader Salifou.

    The one success for France came in the second match of the duel with Emmanuel Lebesson recording a close five games victory over Kenta Matsudaira.

    Experience Counts
    Closest contest of the round in the top half of the draw was that between Hong Kong and Austria with the fomer clinching a three-two victory.

    It was the voice of experience that brought Hong Kong success with Cheung Yuk and Leung Chu Yan both unbeaten. They partnered each other to win the doubles against Feng Xiaoquan and Bernhard Presslmayer whilst Leung Chu Yan beat Presslmayer and Cheng Yuk defeated Daniel Habesohn.

    The wins for Austria came at the expense of youth; both Daniel Habesohn and Feng Xiaoiquan defeated Tse Ka Chun.

    In the quarter-finals Chinese Taipei plays Poland whilst Japan confronts Hong Kong
