Germany’s record breaking Jörg Rosskopf has a new job. The 39 year
old World Doubles champion in 1989 and European Singles champion in
1992, he has been announced as assistant coach by the German Table
Tennis Federation.
Still active in the German League, "Rossi"
will start his duties at the Liebherr European Championships in St
Petersburg, Russia which are being held from 4th to 12th October.
Knowledge of 272 International Team Matches
The
task for Rosskopf is not a simple one after the successful performances
of the Germans in Belgrade last year. Timo Boll won three gold medals:
Men’s Singles, Team (among others with Rosskopf) as well as in the
Men’s Doubles (with Süss).
The icing on the cake was the
bronze medal won by Dimitrij Ovtcharov in the singles to make the
German men the indisputable table tennis leaders on the European
continent.
Nevertheless Rosskopf wants to make changes. "I
will try to change the training focuses a bit, because table tennis has
developed a great deal." And he will not spare star player Timo Boll.
"Anyway there are many points in his game that he can improve",
Rosskopf was quoted on the website of "Der Tagesspiegel".
Paid and Still Free of Charge
Exactly
100 days a year for Rosskopf, that is the time he will be on duty for
the German Federation (DTTB) supporting head coach Richard Prause.
Beside this he will still play for the TTC Indeland Jülich as the
number one of the team.
"We’re glad that we could hire Rossi
after his successful international career for the DTTB trainer team",
explained Sporting Director Dirk Schimmelpfennig. "With his ambitions,
his experience and his competence as a top level player plus his
Licence A as DTTB trainer, he will enrich and optimise the work on the
men’s domain."
Another fact might delight Schimmelpfennig;
Rosskopf’s salary will not charge the budget of the DTTB. His position
on a fee basis will be supported by the German Olympic Sport Union and
thanks to resources from the Federal Ministry of the Interior.
