Japan’s Jun Mizutani and Germany’s Christian Süss, two players who
enjoyed glittering junior careers are producing increasingly consistent
performances in international tournaments, most noticeably on the ITTF
Pro Tour.
At the recent German Open, both reached the semi-final
stage of the Men’s Singles event, Mizutani losing to Timo Boll and Süss
to Vladimir Samsonov.
The result of the higher degree of
maturity is that both have made progress on the Men’s World Rankings
issued by the International Table Tennis Federation on Thursday 2nd
April 2009.
Jun Mizutani moves from no.26 to no.21 whilst Christian Süss advances from no.31 to no.27.
Highest
It is for the German the highest world ranking of his career and the progress in 2009 has been quite startling.
In January he stood at no.42, in February at no.31 and now he is four places higher.
A career high for Süss and nearly the same for Mizutani; his previous high was no.21 in August 2008.
Notable Progress
Notable
progress for two relatively young players and there is notable progress
for two other players who fall into that category; Adrian Mattenet of
France moves from no.108 to no.76; whilst Russia’s Kirill Skachkov
climbs from no.124 to no.91.
It is for both players their highest ever career world rankings.
Making Strides
Also making strides in the top 100 are four players of rather more mature years.
The
most striking progress is that made by Evgueni Chtchetinine of Belarus,
he moves from no.104 to no.79; whilst Austria’s Werner Schlager,
Greece’s Panagiotis Gionis and Croatia’s Zoran Primorac all advance but
no quite so dramatically as the man from Belarus.
Werner
Schlager is at no.14, having been at no.17, Zoran Primorac climbs from
no.24 to no.21 and Panagiotis Gionis is now at no.50. Previously, he
was at no.55.
One Change
Movements
outside the top 10 but within there is little change; China’s Ma Lin
and Ma Long change places; the former is now at no.2, the latter at
no.3; otherwise it is as you were.
Wang Hao, also from China, is
at no.1 with Germany’s Timo Boll at no.4 followed by China’s Wang
Liqin, Vladimir Samsonov of Belarus and the Chinese duo of Chen Qi and
Hao Shuai.
Korea’s Joo Se Hyuk occupies to no.9 place with Chinese Taipei’s Chiang Chih-Yuan at no.10.
New Names
Meanwhile,
in the age group listing, China’s Yin Hang and Zheng Peifeng,
previously not ranked, occupy the top two places on the Under 15 Boys’
list followed by colleague, Chen Jingqi who was previously at no.1.
All three played in the German Open in March.
The
name Yin Hang also appears high on the Under 18 Boys’ Rankings; he is
at no.3 behind Japan’s Kenta Matsudaira and Singapore’s Ma Liang.
As Before
However, on the Under 21 Rankings, there is no change.
China’s Ma Long is at no.1 followed by Germany’s Dimitrij Ovtcharov and Hong Kong’s Jiang Tianyi.
