Chinese Taipei’s Cheng I-Ching, underlined the fact that she is the top seeded player in the Girls’ Singles event at the Hong Kong Junior Open, by recording impressive straight games wins on Saturday 8th August 2009 to book her place in the penultimate round.
Not required to raise her racket in anger in round one, she overcame the rapidly improving Dina Meshref of Egypt in round two before recording a very impressive victory over China’s Zheng Shichang.
Success for Cheng I-Ching and also for China’s Luo Yue, Japan’s Ayuka Tanioka and the host association’s Ng Wing Nam.
Luo Yue
Luo Yue, who had beaten second seed Hong Kong’s Guan Meng Yuan in the group stage, continued her liking for players from the host nation ousting local opposition in both the second round and quarter-finals.
In round two she recorded a straight games win over Wong Chun Wan before winning a titanic seven games duel against Lee Ho Ching, the no.6 seed.
Ng Wing Nam
At the semi-final stage, Luo Yue meets Hong Kong’s Ng Wing Nam, the no.5 seed.
She booked her last four place with victories over Chinese Taipei’s Chen Szu-Yu, the no.4 seed and Japan’s Yui Sato, who had excelled in the first stage of proceedings by defeating Singapore’s Isabelle Li, the no. 8 seed.
Top Half
Meanwhile, in the top half of the draw Cheng I-Ching confronts the defensive skills of Ayuka Tanioka.
Seeded no.3, she beat Guan Meng Yuan by the very narrowest of seven game margins in round two before overcoming China’s Xiong Xinyun in the round of the last eight.
Further Reverse
Defeat for Guan Meng Yuan in the Girls’ Singles event and also in the Girls’ Doubles with Ng wing Nam. Seeded no.1 they suffered a quarter-final reverse against Chinese Taipei’s Lin I-Chun and Tsui Pa-Wen.
In the semi-finals they meet colleagues Chen Szu-Yu and Liu Yu-Hsin whilst in the lower half of the draw China’s Luo Yue and Xiong Xinyun face Hong Kong’s Doo Hoi Kem and Lee Ho Ching.
Only Seeds Remaining
Chen Szu-Yu and Liu Yu-Hsin, seeded three, are the only one of the top four pairs to book a semi-final place in the Girls’ Doubles event.
At the quarter-final stage, second seeds, Chinese Taipei’s Cheng I-Ching and Wang Yi-Ju suffered against Doo Hoi Kem and Lee Ho Ching whilst fourth seeds, Japan’s Rika Suzuki and Ayuka Tanioka lost to Luo Yue and Xiong Xinyun.
