Croatian national team player Sandra Paovic’s health situation is improving.
The 26 year old had a serious car accident in late January this year.
In
the Swiss Paraplegic Centre Nottwil (close to Lucerne), the biggest
special clinic of its kind in Europe, Paovic welcomes friends and is
able to stand on her own feet.

Korea’s 27 year old Park Mi Young used her defensive skills to full
effect to win the Women’s Singles crown at the Japan Open in Wakayama
on Sunday 14th June 2009 beating the host nation’s Sayaka Hirano in the
final.

Korea’s Oh Sang Eun, the no.3 seed, won the Men’s Singles title at
the Japan Open in Wakayama on Sunday 13th June 2009, beating Germany’s
Patrick Baum in a close seven games encounter at the final hurdle and
thus prevented a new chapter in the history books of the ITTF Pro Tour
being written.

Germany’s Patrick Baum caused the upset of the Men’s Singles
semi-finals at the Japan Open in Wakayama on Sunday 14th June 2009 by
beating Austria’s Werner Schlager, the no.4 seed, in five games.
In
the battle between the 2003 World champion and 2005 World Junior
champion, the latter prevailed 12-10, 12-14, 11-9, 11-8, 11-8.

two seeds in the Women’s Singles event at the Japan Open in Wakayama,
booked their places in the final, following success at the penultimate
stage on the morning of Sunday 14th June 2009.
Both progressed in impressive style.

Kishikawa; the highest three world ranked players in action on the
opening day of proceedings, Thursday 11th June 2009, at the Japan Open
in Wakayama, all finished in first place in their respective groups and
thus booked places in the main draw.

Belgium’s 39 year old Jean-Michel Saive, the living legend of
Belgian table tennis, has been elected to serve for a four year term of
office on the Belgian Olympic Committee Interfederal (COIB).
At
the General Assembly held on Friday 6th June 2009, Saive received 67
votes and will serve as one of the seven Francophone Directors on a
board which comprises 15 directors.

penultimate round contest.
