The Para Table Tennis Division took some crucial decisions in order the integration of table tennis players with a disability to the worldwide table tennis family becomes reality.
At its meeting at the ITTF headquarters in Lausanne, the Executive Committee decided that from 1st of January 2010 all registrations of players, umpires etc. for para table tennis events must come through the national associations. No Rest after Successful Paralympics
“One sport one family” is the slogan that sets the trend for the future of para table tennis. With the wonderful impressions of the Paralympic table tennis events at the Peking University Gymnasium in the Chinese capital last summer in mind, the Executive Committee of the Para Table Tennis Division held its meeting at the end of January/beginning February in Switzerland.
So far there are only few national table tennis associations that have already integrated and work closely with table tennis for the disabled, for example Norway and South Africa just to name two.
The new decision will strengthen the position of para table tennis and bring together in each country the respective movements for able-bodied and disabled table tennis players.
Election in Yokohama
At the Annual General Meeting during the H.I.S. 2009 World Table Tennis Championships in Yokohama, Japan, the 30th April will not only be election day for the ITTF Executive Committee; for the first time the table tennis plenary meeting will also elect the members of the Para Table Tennis Division of the ITTF.
