Meshref overcame seventh seeded Russian, Irina Ermakova; whilst Shim Se
Rom defeated Lorine Brunet of France, the no.8 seed.
Egypt’s Mohamed El-Beiali and Russia’s Alexander Shibaev were the
players to cause the upsets in the first round of the Men’s Singles
event at the Morocco Open in Rabat on Wednesday 8th July 2009.
Both
negotiated the qualification stage in style and both ended the
adventures of players who had received direct entries to the main draw.
The French men proved equally as successful as their female counterparts at the Universiade in Belgrade on Monday 6th July 2009.
A semi-final place was booked by the women and it was the same for the men.
Panagiotis Gionis of Greece, a predominantly backspin player with a
devastating forehand topspin, won the Men’s Singles title in the table
tennis events at the Mediterranean Games in the Italian town of Pesara
on Wednesday 1st July 2009.
Turkey’s 20 year old Hu Melek, a player who is establishing herself
on the international scene, won the Women’s Singles title in the table
tennis events at the Mediterranean Games in the Italian town of Pesara
on Wednesday 1st July 2009.
France, represented by Emmanuel Lebesson and Adrien Mattenet, won
the Men�s Team title in the table tennis competition at the
Mediterranean Games in the Italian town of Pesara on Tuesday 30th June
2009; whilst for the women, it was success for Italy.
Nikoleta Stefanova and Wenling Tan Monfardini guided the host nation to success.
